Server Updates / Migrations / Status can be found in this blog.

Raiders is currently being downloaded to our new server Superman. Raiders has also been a long time member of our server family, and its time to retire to a more robust server.  The download process is happening now.. and should be done in the next couple hours.

P51, a long time member of our server family, has retired and gave its customers to the king, Elvis.  This is the last server move to Elvis.  Elvis shall stay the king forever!  This should be done towards the end of the day.  Elvis will not leave the building ;)

Web2 is currently being backed up for migration into Batman.  This should be done towards the end of the day.

By Support on 2/26/2008 10:39 AM

Kyle is almost done with the migration.  The process is happening so fast that I didn't even get a chance to put up a notice about it until its already being deployed.  This should be done in the next hour or so.

We are in the process of moving Viper into Spiderman.   Viper, an ancient Pentium III that has been in production for many years, has run its pace.   The Spiderman server is going to house this server.  This process should be completed by the end of the day.

We are currently in the process of moving Jupiter to the new server Spiderman.  The process should be seamless and little to no downtime is expected.  IP's are not changing so DNS does not have to propagate at all.  Please let us know if you experience any issues.  Thanks.

We are currently moving Mars (a long awaited migration)  to one of our brand new servers in our production line.   The migration is almost complete.  Little to no downtime is expected, and no IP changes should occur.

This is a notice to let users of the server "web1" know that they are being moved to the brand new server "batman" right now.   We expect that the downtime will be very small, or not at all. We are migrating the IPs and everything so it should be a seamless migration.

We are excited to announce that all of our older Plesk boxes (Plesk 7, 7.5, and 8.0) will be moved to one of the latest version of Plesk.  We have acquired all of the hardware, and have done a vigorous hardware q/a check. We expect to have these all done within the next three weeks.

Servers On the list to be migrated:

b52
barracuda
colts
condor
falcon
firebird
gto
hercules
jupiter
kyle
mars
p51
raiders
saturn
viper
web1
web2

These servers have worked great for years, but we need to upgrade them so we can integrate them with our new automated billing system.   This will permit you to manage your account more efficiently, and free us up from most of the billing challenges we face as a company today.  Each control panel also comes with new features that you can use and enjoy.  Spam Filtering is also upgraded so you should enjoy reading your email in the mornings instead of spending your time filtering spam.

Some of the machines listed above have been in service for 8 years, and some are as old as the Pentium III days.  Most of them are P4 3.0 GHZ.  The servers are moving to multi-core processors, with 4 Gigs of ram to start. This will allow us to bump up the number of apache processes so we can get faster performance out of our servers.  These servers also are running some of the fastest SATA disks available on the planet today, and running in a Mirrored (RAID1) configuration for reliability and prevention of loss of data.

We will be posting the day of the server that we decide to move. We plan to move three servers a day, but that may change based on support volumes, and any issues that may come up during the process of migrations.

When you log into your control panel and see Plesk 8.2, then you know you have migrated.

Windows 3 is a different story.  Windows 3 is harder to migrate, and we will be performing an upgrade on it.  We also are going to get Windows 3 into some new, faster hardware.   We once tried to do some hardware upgrades and it failed miserably.

Keep watching our blog for updates on servers.  We are excited to deploy these new servers and provide you with an automated management system to manage your account.

Sincerely,

Travis Whidden

Well, our cPanel2 server went into overload this morning.  We found out that one of our users had an exploited script where an end user was exploiting it to post links to websites (link spam). The Guestbook was 90 megs.. and the coding for the guestbook was very poor, so each request loaded 90 megs into memory and it would just kill the server with each rapid request. So, we got that issue resolved and disabled the scripts for that user.  The server has already processed all the mail, so things should be back to normal. Please let us know if you still are having problems. Read More »
