Due to an unfortunate hardware failure, today we will be retiring our Windows1 server. These accounts will be moved to our much newer and faster Windows4 Plesk server. Once the move is complete we will be emailing our Windows1 customers with further instructions.

If you have any questions, comments or concerns please contact our support team at support@amhosting.com. We plan on having the move complete later this afternoon.

We are finishing the install with another high bandwidth circuit tonight @ 8pm PST. Although we don't anticipate any long network down time, we may be doing some failover testing's to make sure our BGP configurations are doing what we want/expect, which may make us appear to be down for 30 second intervals.  Being that we are multi-homed with several different providers, this additional bandwidth will make your response times even better.  We will be peering direct with Level3 on this circuit.

We have confirmed a report from one Charter customer in the California area is having problems connecting to our network.  We are aware of the issue, and our service providers are working diligently to resolve this.  We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.  Although we are not responsible for this, we want you to know that we are applying as much pressure as we can to get this problem resolved.  If you are experiencing the same issue, please let us know immediately. 775-331-3319.

We will be taking cPanel3 offline to install new hard drives for better preformance and reliability.

This swap should take no longer than 30 minutes.

Well, for the first time in our history we got to use our generators.  We have been very lucky for 10 years, but it was bound to happen.  This morning (6/4/08), Reno Nevada was hit by a major power outage.  Our systems flipped over to our generator and worked like a charm, but our network room for some reason did not.  We were able to resolve that problem by pulling power from our DataCenter to our Network Room.  During that time, our network appeared offline although the servers were all up and running.

We apologize if this outage caused you any troubles.  We are working on a plan to prevent this from happening again (well, our part - we cant help the power company).

As of this posting, power has been restored, and we will be flipping back to standard power in the next few minutes.

On Monday (5/19/08) around 10pm we had a catastrophic hardware failure on a brand new server - superman. Many of you are already aware of that fact. This was the kind of anomaly that drives IT people crazy. The server kept coming up and operating then dying.

Our team worked on it for hours attempting everything, anticipating that a resolution was minutes away. In hindsight a cutover to a back up server might have been a more appropriate way to respond to the crisis, however the reports and indications from our engineers suggested the server could be restored to health quickly.

Many of our valued customers experienced an outage that was longer than anyone expected and we regret and apologize for this. Be assured we are asking the tough questions and conducting a root cause analysis to prevent something like this from happening again.

Everyone knows that equipment breaks and issues come up and we are working to make sure when they do arise the response time is immediate and our information flow to customers is quick and timely.

Please email me directly henry@amhosting.com with your comments on how we can improve.

We are doing some major upgrades on our network this next week. We have one of our two new providers installed and ready to go.  We just have to configure our routers to start using them.  One of our new connection is a connection that can burst to gig speeds.  Yes.. that's right.. 1000 Megabits per second.   Our other provider should be installed at the end of next week.

The network switchover will be transparent to you with the exception of some serious fast speeds.  We may have one of our networks online by the weekend, or early next week.

As some of you know, we had some major problems with Superman earlier this week.   Well, we expect that those will not be back.  We just spent a ton of cash on some new server hardware... some of the nicest ones (Intel Server Board, Xeon Quad Processors, ECC Ram, the works).  We also have bought new hardware that is identical for cpanel2.  We have one set that is a spare, so if we ever have a failure, we have backup components for these super powerful servers.

We do apologize for that down time. We don’t expect it to happen again.. especially with that server.

Ok, this is just an update. We successfully got Wndows3 to run on the new server hardware.. now the fun stuff begins. Originally we were going to let windows3 run on its own... but for some reason the old windows3 just decided to die, so what we are going to do is put the new one online.. but we will be running upgrades on it which will take sites down.  Between each upgrade, we will verify that web sites and email are working, and then shut it down, make a backup at that point in time, and start up again to do the next upgrade.  This is going to be a long process, and it sucks that Plesk requires us to do 3 upgrades to get to the latest version, but once we are there, you guys will be very happy.

Anyhow, just hang tight, you will soon be on a much more powerful server!
